"9/8 Objects" is one hell of a number: a four-meter reggae-ish drum pattern supports variety of contrapuntal lines played on cello, marimba, brass and woodwinds, several of them in 9/8 time signature which are played against the overall straight tempo. Mind-blowing! Very reminiscent of some hypnotic Eastern music. Shankar improvises on violin in this number. Late in his life, Frank Zappa hooked up with the small German avant-garde orchestra the Ensemble Modern for what are said to have been the most enjoyable encounters with an orchestra he had in his career. The combination resulted in the last album Zappa released during his life, The Yellow Shark. This album, issued seven years later by the Zappa Family Trust, chronicles some more of the sessions. "These are recordings from Frank Zappa's rehearsals with the Ensemble Modern in preparation for The Yellow Shark, writes Todd Yvega, who also served as a recordist on the project. In some cases, such as "Whitey (Prototype)," an early version of "Get Whitey," the tracks are actual run-throughs of material that would turn up on The Yellow Shark. Others find Zappa conducting the orchestra through improvisations. With his usual sense of humor, and with sympathetic classical musicians for once, he combines experimental music with other found sounds, including recitations by pianist Hermann Kretzschmar, who begins by reading the information from his library card and later in the album reads letters to the editor from Piercing Fans International Quarterly ("Keep up the great work. I don't know what to pierce next.") The juxtapositions of spoken word and orchestral sounds is reminiscent of Lumpy Gravy, while Kretzschmar's German accent recalls Theodore Bikel in 200 Motels. But the unusual percussion effects bespeak the continuing influence on Zappa of his early mentor Edgard Varhse, bringing these late recordings full circle to some of his first compositions. • Hey people, what's the music title?

  • not 100% sure, but I think it's NIN

  • i'm sorry... i'm totally confused..

    please help..

this music is rather fucking amazing - goes better with the video than anything else that i can imagine.. but i have never heard it before.. unless i am going senile and cannot remember???

So is this zappa or is it something that you have put on instead of zappa. cos zappa has been censored.

Basically - what exactly is the music please??

  • sadly it's not Zappa's 9/8 Objects and Pound for a Brown....

i'm pretty sure it's NIN (nine inch nails) but the title i do not know

    someone might know, anyone?

  • i dont remember hearing a pound for a brown on the yellow shark album or everything is healing nicely album

  • it's on the Yellow Shark album

  • Hi everyone, the name of the song is " 28 ghost IV" by Nine inch nails, and it's on " ghost", their ( or must i say his ) intrsumental masterpiece released in 2008, the good point in this album is that you can play the music anywhere ( films, events etc... ) without paying a right! Frank Zappa is a genius, but my heart is devoted to Trent, the one and only

ps: If you like his slow and mellow pieces, you should hear " La mer" on the 1996' Fragile LP, maybe the only thing that keep me alive

    bye

  • I worked with Frank before he died. He died the same month as my dad of the same thing: prostate cancer. He was a genius like I have never met before. He could remember details like nobody I have ever met. He was certainly one of the most talented, original guitarists ever. How can we pass his amazing legacy on???? These kids are listening to garbage these days. Radio is dead. We need Frank back. Gail-let a little slide by-we love Frank-it might even help market existing product.

  • @asbestomolesto I believe the title is "9/8 Objects/pound for a brown", they are covering Frank Zappa on pound for a brown. And I believe 9/8 objects is either inspired by or a cover of Zappa as well.

  • CENSORED!!!

  • @flowerpunkchip hey punk where u goin with that flower in your hair u chump keep up the good work peace bro

  • OK> FUCK THE ZAPPA family then. If they wan tto play hard ball like this bullshit, them fuck them.

  • @MikeInVentura I agree! Music today is garbage and more kids should listen to Frank!

  • NIN's Ghosts?! is NIN gone? if i were trent, i'd make NIN the past and start a new one man band of sorts, or join a regular band of misfits...tht reminds me, my dad keeps telling me to check out "chicken foot"

  • @flowerpunkchip it's from the ghosts album. the tracks are only numbered, so it has no real title

  • Zappa was way ahead of his time. He conceptualized the idea of selling music via cable into one's home. This was before the general public internet was even invented. Reznor is ahead of his time. He's allowing people to use the songs from NIN's Ghosts to create what they want. Gail, on the other hand just doesn't get it

  • Heya flower :) I enjoyed the video collage. I know people are kinda on about the audio, but I think even without the audio, the video itself is fascinating to watch.

  • I'm hoping the choke hold the powers that be have on use of music in art (editing/timing this all together is an art) comes back to bite them on the ass. Someone who may have clicked on this quite possibly would have been exposed to Zappa for the first time and started buying music. I'd hope that if he were here today, the man himself would make his own opinion quite clear... Lets not taint our opinions,
