This is a simple timer for single handed sailing.

Inside the waterproof casing, there is a digital microcontroller TI MSP430 (from the famous TI LaunchPad), and a few components including 2 AA batteries.

The device has 2 modes : active or sleep. When active, a long press on the button switches to sleep, and when sleeping, a single press activates the timer.

In active mode, it does only two things : countdown or ring. To shut off the buzzer, a single pression on the button adds 5 minutes to the countdown.

5 low current LEDs indicate the remaining timing in the countdown, respectively less than 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes. The LEDs blink accordingly to let the sleeper know how much time he can stay in his warm berth.

Thanks for watching!

and thanks to HackADay www.hackaday.com for the ideas, to forum members for help, to my brother Ben for invaluable help
