Music and Words by Elton John! A good example of why he needs a lyricist! "The Goaldiggers" was a football booster organization in England in the 70s that Elton was a part of. He wrote and recorded this song as part of a benefit dinner, to raise funds for the charity. Only 500 copies of the single were pressed, and most of them were autographed by Elton. The song was written and performed by Elton alone. It's an extremely rare record!
The B-side was a humorous conversation with the charity's spokesmen Jimmy Hill, Brian Moore, Eric Morecombe (who is silent on the recording), and Elton. It is simply titled "Jimmy, Brian, Elton and Eric" and can be heard right here on my YouTube channel!
Elton also performed the song live at his Wembley Stadium concert that year.
