MOM: so...how are you?
M: please. Just say what you wanted to say.
MOM: im sorry...about what I did. And the way you found out.
M: me too
MOM: I don't want you to feel like you weren't good enough. Your dad and I just weren't happy together.
M: so you had an affair? You couldn't get divorced first?
MOM: that would have been a better idea. I wasn't thinking about the future at the time
M: obviously. And I'm not surprised. My whole life, its always been about you. Never anyone else.
MOM: Madison—
M: look. Im not gonna say anything else. I'll let you enjoy your 'special day.' And tomorrow ill be gone. I don't want to be a part of your new life...with Charles. And honestly, I don't think you want me in it either. It's no secret you and I never really got along. Im not offended. I get it. Its always been that way.
MOM: you're lucky, you know
M: [confused] so im guessing we aren't on the same page?
MOM: I mean nick. He really cares about you
M: yeah. I am lucky. I better get going and get a seat. Bye.
MOM: bye.

[My mom hugged me as I started to leave, but I didn't hug back, I waited for her to let go and when she did I walked out of the room and saw nick leaning against the wall.]

[nicks pov]
[we were sitting in the crowd during the ceremony when the priest did the whole, 'if anyone has a reason why these two shouldn't be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.' I think everyone in the room turned towards val. She saw everyone staring and expecting her to stand up. Instead, she lightly shook her head and the ceremony continued and concluded. Everyone left and headed to the reception. We walked in and sat down at our designated table.]

M: I wonder if any of these people will be sober at the end of tonight.

[I looked in the direction she was looking and saw all the guests heading for the open bar.]
N: [laughs] I wouldn't bet on it.

[a half hour later, the bride and groom walked in and everyone started eating and dancing. We had just sat down at our table from dancing when a guy, about nineteen walked up and looked at val. He asked her if she wanted to dance. She looked at me then back to him.]

M: I would but my boyfriend just asked me to
[she grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the dancefloor.]

N: [whines] I don't wanna dance again
M: ok. I'll just go find that guy again.

[she started to walk away but I grabbed her wrist and spun her around. I smiled and pulled her closer.]
M: good. I didn't want to dance with him.
N: why?
M: I saw a picture of him with Charles at the house [shudders] they must be related.

[when the song ended, it was loud in the room so I leaned in closer.]
N: do you wanna go?

[she nodded yes and we walked to the exit. We walked outside and val pulled out her phone.]

N: what are you doing?
M: calling a cab.
N: why? We have that guy who brought us here.
M: you didn't see him inside? He's too drunk to take us.

[as she closed her phone it started to lightly rain. She looked at me and laughed.]

M: my time here just gets better and better, huh?
N: my favorite day was when you yelled at Charles.
M: well. Im glad someone enjoyed themselves [smiles]

[it started raining harder and harder as we waited for our cab. She had her arms wrapped around my waist and her head buried in my chest. She looked up at me to say something but I interrupted her with my lips on hers. We kissed with the rain falling down on us. We both pulled away when the cab pulled up and had its lights shining on us. We got in, and the driver took us back to the house. We went upstairs, changed into dry clothes, packed our stuff, and went to sleep. ]
