The true story of a final dinner of silent film idol Rudolph Valentino.

In 1926, the world's eyes were on silent film idol Rudolph Valentino. The press had not so subtlely accused him of being a homosexual. Valentino responded with furious outbursts, only adding feul to the fire. Finally, he calls on famed journalist H.L. Mencken for advice. Mencken is struck by the genuine pathos in Valentino, and suggests the movie star simply ignore the chatter. But there was little time for that. One week later, Valentino was dead at the age of 31.

"Good Night Valentino" is the story of the meeting between Valentino and Mencken, as told in the words of H.L. Mencken himself.

  • @Kathylouu I agree with everything you said. As for today's crop of actors, Jason Lee comes to mind. He looks like Valentino, although taller, not as athletic and now more than 10 years older than Valentino was when he died. He does have the tough/sensitive thing, though.

  • Anthony Dexter came close but he was to one dimensional. The '77 probably would have really pissed Rudy off, with it's gay theme (and Rudy fought, actually got into a fight when it was implied he was gay, risking his health and looks) and this, what is this? This guy is nothing like Rudy. Find somebody that is tough and sensitive, good looking enough and a Great actor & dancer and use some makeup to recreate the look. You got to capture the essence of Rudy, that is the difference

  • I just saw the short film and it is very good. Bellerini does a great job. I also really liked "Daydreams of Rudolph Valentino" but it is very different. I'm just glad that people are trying to keep the memory of Rudy alive.

  • James De Bello? Really? This guy resembles Valentino more than anyone out there now. I think its pretty close.

  • What idiot thought this ferret-face looked like Rudy?! What a farce.

  • The idea of a smirking Mencken narrating such a story is lame.

The use of Mencken as a movie character offered much more potential and interesting possibilities than this.

    Hollywood,par for the course,blew it.

  • There is no other man ever created that could be Valentino. He was and is unequaled to this day.

  • Yea. i don't think he looks like Rudy at all.
