Notice the disclaimer of corporate engines for 1978, following the 1977 "Chevymobile Affair" when hordes of Oldsmobile buyers were pissed and sued GM after finding Chevy 350s under the hoods instead of the Olds "Rocket" V8 of same displacement. The standard engine for the '78 El Camino was a Buick 231 V6; with the 305 and 350 Chevy Turbo Fire (small block) V8s optional.

@Vyssockdude1 It would be a "new for" 1978 model, but the commercial was broadcast in 1977.
