@kiddokiddokiddo Hey, I am planning to buy a GPS-receiver from DealExtreme that runs Windows CE and use Navit's Windows CE-build on it, do you have any idea how could I accomplice similar beep with that? It seems to be a very nice addition. Thanks!

Navit can run on Windows, Linux (ie: Ubuntu), Mac OS X and various handheld devices. You'll have to check the wiki for instructions on that.

I was driving around in my car today, using same system.
navit with espeak on my eeepc with EasyPeasy (ubuntu), but i hav a problem, when other programms like kaffeine or totem are playing sounds, navit hangs, coz of espeak cant play sounds...
any suggestions?

Try installing alsa-oss and using "aoss espeak blahblahblah".

Oops, sorry, did not see your second question. I did this by using "aplay thepathtothesoundfile" before the command. So my command looks like "aplay the-beep && aoss espeak blahblahblah"
