Wow, so many people hung up over the number and position of mics. ha ha ha..The simple answer is by using one or two mics, they could hear each others voices better and fine tune the volume and harmony and blending of their voices in relation to the others....Has nothing to do with BS about anybodys position in society etc., etc. Watch any bluegrass group with four part harmony...they all only use one mic....As added note: I love love love this song and video...they were special and unique.

The best music I heard at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival was Paul (Noel) Stookey, all by himself, doing the mike check before the PPM set. He was doing this song. It was the absolute coolest.
