A superb piece of workmanship this one, as were all the flies I've seen you tie. However, this fly if I could ever anywhere near copy it I would rather put into a display case than into trout waters, as the fish I usually am up against seem to like their food to look more "buggy" than this fine creation.

Hi Davie -
Can you explain when you should tie in hackle by the tip versus the stem?
Got to say how much I enjoy your videos - my tying has improved leaps and bounds since I started watching. It is really wonderful that you share so freely your tips and techniques.
Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul (Emblasail),
Tradition always says that you tye a hen hackle in by the tip and the cock hackle in at the butt and I would mostly advise tyers to do this, but if the stems are too thick or if the fibres are a better length or colour at a point then this is where I would tye it in.

Hey Davie,
I tried wet fly fishing for the first time last year on the White River in Arkansas. We used the 3 dropper system and caught lots of browns. In your opinion what are your 3 favorite wet flies for Browns on this system? I know it depends on a lot of conditions !!! I went out with Davy Wotton for a day and we primarily used the Invicta, Muddler Daddy and the Hares Ear Wet..
Thanks Buddy,
Rick

Hi Rick,
Like you said it will all depend on the conditions and what is hatching at the time, like the three flies you used when you were fishing with Davy Wotton they would certainly represent caddis and flies which certainly would be in my box. Traditional flies do most times represent species of flies but there's also one's that attract like the Dunkeld and Butcher patterns they also are very good as small fry patterns..I hope this is of some help to you..
All the best Davie
