While fishing for steelhead BigJim hooked up with a decent Dolly Varden which is also known as a Bull Trout in a well fished river. Suprisingly the very busy river had no fishermen in the stretch he was fishing. Hooked on a spinner in the end of a drift, this char fought well and had BigJim questioning if it was a small steelhead for a short bit.

Please release all wild Dolly Varden and Steelhead.

  • Nice. :) Although both look alike, bull trout and dolly varden are in fact two distinct species that are not as closely related as once we believed. It wasn't until the late 80s/early 90s, bull trout was formally recognized as a species.

They're key slow growing predators of anadromous salmonids in coastal streams. This makes them an important selective factor that keeps anadromous salmon populations healthy by weeding out the weak juveniles that get preyed on.

  • @fishingwithrod Thank you rod, Jees Louise you keep posting to my videos and I might think you want to go fishing with me.

  • @tripleduboutdoors Don't get any ideas, that was my second comment on your videos. ;)

I'm usually up for fishing with anyone so coming down to Washington eventually is always a possibility.

  • @fishingwithrod LOl, thanks Rod.

  • @fishingjoe45 Didnt make it out tuesday, won't make it out this tuesday either more than likely. Next day I fish may be when I pull some major strings.

  • @tripleduboutdoors Dollies aint the real problem, compared to the wagon burners.

I still kill/eat them when the opportunity arises. They taste purdy fucking good, and are a nice change of pace from salmon.

Hope your trip has been more than fruitful.

  • @fishingjoe45 Oh cmon, they make fun targets and daysavers. I would have a problem deep sixing one of them, when the real problem isn't the dollies.

  • Shoulda popped a gill on dat egg sucker, and deep sixed his fucking ass. Kill dollies at every opportunity.

Oh yeah, they make fine sturgeon bait.
