hi and hello again :) may i take this opportunity to introduce to you China's unofficial national anthem, its called mo li hua (if you havent already know), named after the Jasmin flower (Molihua).
If you have been watching the games, this is the tune played at the medal podium as they introduce the country representatives to their position.

At the closing ceremony this song was performed by Domingo and Song, its the same melody but the lyrics and title was changed to - The Flame of Love- Ai De Huoyan.

This is a little improv. of the song on the piano.Yullis

  • very beautiful arrangement. but may I correct you?

This song is a 'folk' song. It is one of the most famous chinese tune and well-known to Westerners after Giacomo Puccini who borrowed this tune for his opera Turandot. Molihua is not Chrysanthemum, but means JASMINE.

  • Yes, indeed I got the flower's name mixed up. Thank you for the correction and information. :)

  • very nicely played but i have never heard this song in the Beijing olmpics

  • Well..did anyone else heard it? Its in orchestral form, as the atheletes are standing by the medal podium they will play this song, after that the gold medalist country anthem will be played, the this tune will returned again. The main tune is played like once then it goes on into a heroic chord progression repeated chorus part and go as long as the winners need to thank the audience. The main tune can be missed easily cos it is only played once. :)

  • That E on the piano could use some tuning :) Nice job taking the song apart.

  • @simplypiano I don't think so. They were playing Tan Dun's Eroica Symphony during the medal ceremony. I don't remember hearing this but I've heard this song before. Very nice playing!

  • Bravo! I loved it, famous and classic song!

  • Nice lyrics. Well, I understand only a few ideograms, but the song is very cute :)

  • That is a lovely arrangement. Thank you for posting. Could you explain to me though...What the 'Placido Domingo' thing was about? I didn't get to watch much of the Olympics....and I didn't see the Great Tenor on the video clip. Anyway .. beautiful piano playing. Thank you for posting
