I know there will be those who watch this documentary and say that the sixties were the most divisive and disorganized time in American history, and trying to recapture something like that is just plain irresponsible.

But... that was sort of the point.

Change from the bottom up is hard and to be successful you have to piss off a lot of people in the process. But we were ready, willing, and able to stand up for peace and love, even if it meant that people were going to find that offensive.

We knew it wasn't going to be easy, and those first few days when we were broke and without a home in the streets of San Francisco reinforced that point. We were even robbed twice in one day! (I chose not to include those scenes in the film because I felt it didn't drive the story forward, but maybe one day I'll put those scenes up on YouTube as well)

Our initial idealism halted when we arrived at our first San Francisco protest. I remember the feeling vividly. We thought we'd be able to hear the protestors from miles away, but in fact we couldn't even hear them from across the street. We were expecting to be among thousands of people, instead we found ourselves among (maybe) 200. We were looking forward to meeting masses of young people, and while there were some, the mass majority of them looked like they were ready to retire.

Luckily we were about to receive some much needed help...
