@39rc6cf Bad men to be sure. Millions of Germans were murdered by the Soviets after the war, Hundreds of thousands were allowed to die by Soviets in prisoner of war camps.

The war was over in Europe by the time the A bomb was operational. At that time the war in Europe was over. Atrocities we will leave to the Soviets and the Nazis. That is just how we roll.

@39rc6cf Using the bombs saved at least 30 million Japanese... We knew from MAGIC code breakers the Japanese war cabinet's calculus, and developed operation to make it obvious to them that they were defeated and could gain more by surrender than they could gain by resistance. It was very nicely calculated, and took the second operational bomb. The third was not assembled during the war.

@DonMeaker, I'm sure there was cloak and dagger stuff going on but let's look at history. You know about "Der Stuermer," the vicious anti-Semitic newspaper from Julius Streicher, hanged at Nuremberg. That rag primed the Gentile Germans for the Holocaust. That paper,plus Hitler's and henchmens' speeches convinced Gentile Germans of the need to exterminate their Jewish neighbors. They bought it, millions died and as a "rewards," A-bombs,if existent, should have been dropped

as precursors to Japan.

@DonMeaker, Don, let's face facts. Had the military aspects of Hiroshima & Nagasaki been the INTENDED targets, we could have used high explosive or incendiary bombs to take them out. But Truman had more to do. He had to (1)terrorize Japan into surrender (2)show "Uncle Joe" what laid in wait for him unless...Truman knew what civilian consequences there'd be but saving Am. lives and scaring Stalin were more important. And so enough "innocents" died to demoralize Japan into surrender,thank God.

@39rc6cf No, nuclear weapons were targeted at military targets, Hiroshima at an army group hq, biological warfare plant and complex of factories. Nagasaki bomb also was dropped on a torpedo factory. The difference is between non-combatant casualties which occur because of intention, and non-combatant casualties which occur as collateral damage. The Japanese moved industry into housing areas, but did not protect their industry, but rather put their population at risk. Their warcrime!

@39rc6cf Actually the resolution to give Hitler dictatorial powers was to be significantly limited by a particular document, which was to be incorporated into the resolution. The time for the vote came but the document was delayed for typing....After Hitler got his votes, the limiting document never produced. Fraud.

@DonMeaker, Hitler never got into power by fraud. He was the head of the NSDAP (Nazi Party) which constantly showed growth in the Reichstag until its power rendered opposition parties useless. Who put those Nazis into power? THE SAME PEOPLE who went up in flames thanks to Allied air raids plus Soviet artillery power. Too many people think that Hitler came to power thru revolution.

The truth is simple enough: the freaking Germans loved the bastard.

@DonMeaker, if killing innocents mimicks the Soviet/Nazi/Fascist/Imperial Jap approach, then are you saying that our having nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, accounting for 200,000 deaths, made the USA Soviet/Nazi/Fascist & Imperial Japanese?

@39rc6cf Actually Schicklegruber got into power by fraud. Not the first or last time it happened, but not killing the people who didn't vote for him, or who where fooled into voting for him was not a completely bad thing. Killing innocents is more a Soviet/Nazi/Fascist/Japanese imperial approach.
