Blizzard Of 2010: Ephrata, Pa (Lancaster County)

This is Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, located in northeastern Lancaster County. It's my mom's birthday today and two years since I posted my first guitar video. I'll always remember the storm on 2/10 2010. We got about 19 inches of snow which piled on top of the 18 inches we had gotten three days prior. Strong winds blew the snow and created drifts 7 ft high.

I know, I know, wimpy stuff to people living where it REALLY snows, but hey, this is a lot of snow too.

I'm not especially fond of the snow. In general, I hate winter. But, every now and then I just love the heck out of a good storm. It has a way of forcing the pace of life to slow down. Right now I'm in that mood. I NEED the pace of life to slow down for awhile.

It's cool. The restaurant where I work closed down last Saturday and again on Wednesday and when we were open it was definitely much slower. Except for today (I'm writing this on Saturday, Feb 11). It was pretty darn busy. We fed 8.700 people! Last year though on this same day we set our record when we served 1030 people!

The reason why we were 1,300 people short of the record can only be attributed to the snow. Days after the storm some people are still having a hard time getting through certain roads. After plowing the winds just whipped large amounts of snow right back on the roads. Ephrata is pretty good at keeping after the roads. Kudos to everyone who makes it happen. I couldn't do it. Gives me flashbacks of driving my M60A1 Tank in the Marines on sheets of ice over treacherous terrain on Camp Fuji, Japan, in the winter of 1986.

@TristanLovesTiger I was in the Marines for 3 years and I've traveled the world a bit. I've gone through various phases of loving and hating Ephrata. All in all, I love Ephrata and Lancaster County but consider myself a man of the planet. I've come to realize that it doesn't really matter where you are at, it matters where your head is at. My head is in a good place and I am at peace with the world so everything is cool.

@Starkstone i am not from ephrata but i have been here since dec. 28, 2009. i was here during that snow storm and just made it here for the one in early 2010. lol being southern it was interesting. lol however, i will be leaving in 2 wks from tomorrow. i graduate and will be leaving the snow for the birds lol. ephrata is a unique town, but i enjoyed my time here. ;-)
