  • Simply gorgeous. The duchesnays did very, very well but these two were superior skaters. Marina's body language is always mesmerizing to watch. In my opinion , Isabelle was a powerful skater but almost too rough for my taste. Her style lacked softness. May be it's just me but I prefer elegance to pure athleticism. Probably that's why I appreciate Delobel & Schoenfelder nowdays.

I'll always admire Paul though. One of the best dance partners.

  • This is the real thing. The best quality ice dance team ever doing what is a classic ice dance performance. No gimmicks like with Torvill and Dean, no gross theatrics like those that followed later in the 1990s. This routine has fast, intricate footwork with the couple skating close together, and a great, elegant performance quality. Also, both Marina and Sergei are quality skaters; neither one is compensating for the other as would happen with B & B. Fantastic!

  • Oh that is SO true! Natalia B., thrashing her arms, then legs a minimum of 3 times each; goofy expressions;an over the top Carmen in'85. These two K&P should've won in 1988@Calgary.Love that 1991 program of Rhakamo& Petri Kkoko(sp?) from Finland where they did a funny program as a 'salute' to some of their competitors-like B & B., perhaps? ;-)

  • beautiful program it's wonderful to see them again. thank for posting. loved it jaonna1943:)

  • Torvill/Dean were not 'gimmicky'. They had strong, silent edging-could barely hear their blades. The Duchesnays-crowd pleasers though they were-were NOT in the same league technichally.Credit Chris Dean for playing up and TO the Duchesnay's strengths, going in a different direction completely. But w/out Dean's genius,Isabelle and Paul would've been back in the middle of the pack. As far as pure ice dance technique, Marina and Sergei, along w/Jayne and Chris are in a class by themselves.

  • I have to disagree. Torville & Dean didn't really create "new" things - Dean took Kenneth MacMillan's ballet vocabulary & ADAPTED it to ice dancing. Just watching their routines, you can tell how much Dean was influenced by MacMillan.

  • Sorry didn't think the computer was responding, I don't know how to delete the extras

  • These two are phenomenal saters, to be sure, and the amazing thing is that 16 years later, they would dance the performance of their lifetime. But I dislike the disparaging comments about Torvill and Dean. They set the standard 10 years earlier, AND they did all of their own choreography. Many of the moves employed by this era of ice dancers were invented by T&D.
