Discovery Channel's Mike Rowe of "Dirty Jobs" & "Mike Rowe Works" speaks to the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee on the need for a change in the mindset of government to promote more skilled trades as the desired professions to save our economy, rather than continuing the current trend of being exclusive to support jobs that require a four-year degree or more.

  • GO MIKE!!!

  • This guy should be in a position to make this PR promotion to happen... People of logical, level headed decions are hard to find these days.

  • We need level headed people like Mike as President.

  • this is so true but will never happen because the movers and the shakers of this country, the ones who really run things, will never allow this to happen because helping the economy is something that they dont want, they got too comfortable being in power and have gotten way too greedy to ever let that go, you can make a lot more money on students who are in debt than you can paying more skilled laborers

  • Mike, Your beautiful description of your grandfather could be duplicated without editing as a description of my father. My 14-year-old son has been beside his grandfather in his workshop since he could toddle. My husband and I have 5 college degrees between us...but, I am proud that our son has decided to follow his grandfather's legacy by working with his hands. My precious father passed 2 months ago, and I know he's so proud. Btw, we live in Alabama & appreciate your support of our tradesmen.

  • i am approaching this on an inclusion

not an either or choice as we need education at all levels we are not asking for your attendance although it would be welcomed.

if a high school technical program benifited you or not, pleas feel free to share your experience my email for this is new2cnc@gmail.com we will present this support at the board meeting. i have recieved substantial support so far and know we share this need. James McGrew Cabinetmaker

  • the cabinetry program has cnc machines and incorporates digital technol;ogy. It has had growth

in students since its inception. any one in the columbia area who can attend i

would appreciate it. this is not about any local area it is about all, the students are making thier case, i have been on the advisory board for this program for a few years and will be thier to back them up.

  • On tuesday night i am going to speak at the board meeting for richland district two

as the principle of richland northeast high school

is moving to eliminate the auto and cabinetmaking programs and replace them with

culinary arts at the high school level. the agenda before the board on january 10 did not outline the closing of programs only the inception of new ones

teachers have been told to inform students the programs will no longer be avalable

  • organized labor is the worker's best defense against exploitation by capital. what you see as unions making the playing field unfair is simply workers defending themselves in an unfair system that is stacked against them. without the advances made by organized labor we would still be working and living in 19th century industrial revolution conditions.

  • @912dori Yes, it wasnt necessary, but your comment about unions came off the wrong way to me. I was misinformed about differences in unions, and realize that the union I am a member of is 100% different than what you are talking about. We arent ruled by our union, nor do we rule the company. If my company wants to fire someone, they will one way or another. Seems like for every 1 person in favor of union, there are 500 who hate them so I stand up for us when I can.
