I wonder if this is from the Met. I saw her in this role there in the Fall of '88 or '89. I can't recall now, but I believe it was October. That was one of the great nights of the opera for me. I thought Battle was perfect as Cleopatra. Just perfect. I really enjoyed that performance. She sounded and looked ravishing and made the character charming, willful, and wily.

Wish there is a CD or a DVD of her singing this. First time I heard her was on a record of Handel's Messiah and I am hooked since! What a lovely voice she has!

I like what she does with this aria. The embellishments seem to all be in the right places and not overdone.

Lovely but I think it it was 1988. She was not singing full staged opera in 1998, unless this comes from a concert.

You are correct, 1998 is a a typo, and the correct year is 1988. I've changed it in the youtube desc., but I'm not going to change the text in the video. Thank you for pointing that out.
