@BoraBoraGirl2001 Why did you bother typing all of this up for me? I am perfectly aware of the new Code of Points. I know the requirements and know what combinations rake up the points, hence the formulaic & repetitive tumbling passes you see today. What's the point of your comment? I have a preference for floor exercises, I don't need to justify them to anyone.

@happyjellyfish Mostepanova competed under a completely different Code of Points than the one that is used today. The routines are formulaic because artistry is not rewarded in the same way anymore. Also, the routines require FAR more difficult skills (and more of them), so that choreography and dance end up neglected. Today's gymnasts are simply doing what is required of them. (Shrugs).

@MrMartinportnoy yep...Alexandrov knows what he wants and is usually right...he still doing it today lol

Absolutely beautiful to watch. Such amazing lines and grace. Her body moves so perfectly and elegantly. One of my most favourite gymnasts ever. I remember watching her like it was yesterday.

@javajunkie6 The official reason was that she was injured. In an interview many years later she confessed that the Soviet coaches quite simply believed Oksana Omelianchik (her replacement) had better chances of taking a medal, so they pulled her out after a long intra-squad talk....

I wish more people did the Mostepanova element on floor. It looks ridiculously elegant and athletic and it would be a welcome and fresh change form the same formulaic tumbling passes everyone does now.

it's really too bad that they pulled her from the all around. She qualified top 3, and if she hit, she would have possibly won with Yurchenko and Szabo's mistakes! She is really one of my all time favorites
One of the great Soviets-a Legend.
