Sorry for the late reply. Most of the parts we got were from the surplus store. A lot of the work is on the programing side and wiring the circuit board.
Here is a list of parts used on this project:
A pic micro-controller.
H-bridge that actuates the food release mechanism.
A real time clock that keeps track of the time. It communicates over I2C protocol with the microcontroller.
An encoder mounter on the motor shaft with an optical encoder.
would you be able to share your ideas / photos of the mechanical design ?? mine keeps jamming on the dry food pellets !

This does jam too, it's not perfect. Food sometimes get stuck between the drum and the tube.
