Yellow Bikes in Silver city, NM

About one year ago some very egaged volunteers started a community bike shop in Silver city. Goal of the shop- to get people riding! As many as possible and of course everybody can come. It started with weekly bike rides and now is a big bike-maintanance space and classroom for people who are interested in learning how a bike works, how to fix it and of course how to interact with other people, to be a team player and to know your limits. At the bikeworks everybody can earn their own bike, because the only thing you invest is your time. After several volunteer hours in which you help the shop, you pactically earned your bike. From the many donated bikes and parts you can choose what you like and build a bike from scratch!
Now to the Yellow Bikes: Many volunteers helped at the bikeworks to turn donated bikes into solid one-speeder, which people can ride around town. They are community property, so nobody can just claim them. Of course they are another signal to get riding or keep riding bikes. The bikeworks takes the task of maintenance and if necessary to liberate the bikes from some front yard, in which they don't belong.

I'm a fan from Germany and worked for about half a year at the bikeworks during my exchange year. It was an awesome experience and I got to now fantastic people, who really want to change the world! I LOVE YOU GUYS
