It's funny that so many of us who are not vegetarians are squeemish about slaughtering animals.
I think it's a symptom of our "hear no evil, see no evil" mentality - so long as the dirty business is done by our henchmen somewhere away from us, all is well.
I think having to "look an animal in the eye" before devouring it denotes a great deal more honesty than we "civilized" people have.

That veyr funny, my fiance was from Canada, when we talking about the wedding next year. I always remind him that if we held the wedding traditional iban in my longhouse in rejang river he must kill a pig. oh no problem he says hahaha. I sure he will suffer to hear the pig scream and hopefully he will not regreat doing that all his life. wait and see if he really Iban warrior.
