Financial crisis hits El Salvador - 15 Nov 08

El Salvador's citizens have been hit by the global slump in the main part because their currency is also the US dollar and the economy relies heavily on remmitances from overseas workers.

Al Jazeera's Gabriel Elizondo travelled from San Salvador to the town of Intipuca, to find out what effect this is having on El Salvador's population.

Relying on remittances from family members in the US is not good.

I think El Salvador & Salvadorans need to cut political and economic ties with the US and think for themselves--- go back to their currency, PRODUCE everything they did before CAFTA and TLC. That's the only way they can get out of poverty.

Jobs in El Salvador are very low paying & serve corporate interests. Once a corporation finds cheaper production costs they leave the and thousands are jobless...Return to Agriculture!

Im saying funes is doing his best in terms of security... hes not an emperor or a dictator to change everything in a blink of an eye so that people like him.. remember that we have,unfortunately almost the same political system as the US. taxes have been getting bigger just like crime rates, that is arenas results..
