  • your tree is not mounded high enough if you have a clay type of soil. in general we plant bare root trees for fruit, ex avocado and citrus, and soak them in horticultural molasses for 24 hours. in commercial orchards we rip the soil down down to 3 feet for 2 years in a row before planting and use and auger to punch a very deep hole planting hole that is back filled.

  • Whats important is the drainage - if the water drains away within minutes then its good enough to plant most fruit trees - avocados as you say are a different story and you need to create a larger mound if you dont have exceptionally free-draining soils.

  • Hello,

Cherimoyas will grow in california. The cherimoya is a pretty hardy tree and will tolerate light frosts. You dont need two trees but you may need to hand pollinate the flowers.

    Hope this helps :)

  • How cold can the Cherimoya tree get? Do you need 2 trees in order to get fruit? I'm in California the temperatures go to 7C degrees and in summer it gets up to 37.7C degrees. or in Fahrenheit it gets from 20F and a high of 100F. Can Cherimoyas grew here?

  • definately - i think they grow them commercially there

  • Great video! Thanks a lot!!

  • Very informative video. And a beautiful garden! Bet your Cherimoya is very happy there.

  • Where can I find a Cherimoya tree living in Sacramento, CA?

  • if you have avocado and clay soil you must plant in a mound or bed and the hole must be amended with 1/4 sand and 1/4 compost, and the hole should be 5x the root ball and 2x the depth and back filled and mounded, or the tree will die from root rot. blueberries need spaghum peat moss around 10 gallons per plant and to be mounded. tree should be heavily mulched on top. some trees, apricots, and almonds, peaches do fine in clay as long as mounded and rootball above ground and top dress only.

  • They definately grow in san diego.
