"Songs from the Wood" & band intro by Jethro Tull, from the DVD "Live At Madison Square Garden 1978", released in 2009 by EMI.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
That concert was not videotaped in it's entire.
At some parts of the DVD you can only listen the band playing, while watching a slide show.

  • What guitar is martin using?

  • @jo366 It's a Gibson Les Paul Special

  • thanks so much for posting this. If I could see any line up of tull and only had one choice it would be this one. These guys were so tight live.

  • @whiskeynale69 I totally agree with you! That was a golden period, probably 1978 was the best year of their career, with (almost) all their best albums already released and a hot-as-hell lineup! Anderson, Barre, Evan, Barlow, Palmer and Williams... Holy Christ, what a group!!!

They had to choose through dozens of outstanding songs to perform, they were still young, but mature and experienced, with such a lineup, and at the top of their fame... What else could a Tull fan ask?!

  • Anybody know what is the intro theme?

  • @BigDaddyAEL1964

Actually, Barre used Hamer's exclusively for years, including the one you see in this video.

  • Deliciously Lord of The Rings-ish

  • ahh, the seventies!!! My greatest shows seen live included two Tull shows!!! Absolutely blew my sh!t away!!!

What is Barlow up to nowadays?

  • @pellmj1 Indeed. The 'footswitch' for the pre-recorded playback part is deployed here (and you can also see it on the 1977 London show as well) for the backing vocals at the beginning, and it also sounds like some other places as well. Too bad they had to do that. Otherwise, excellent musicianship and performance!

  • I am partial to the original line-up, but this is just stupifying. Incredibly tight, great showmanship. Wow!

  • FOREVER TULL!

  • Dig Barlow on harmony Flute. Had no idea he could play Flute. Awesome band, awesome drummer and the best front man in the business.

  • FYI - the intro is the instrument section of Cap in Hand from Songs from the Wood.
