  • Thanks nonoman290...this takes me back. Mott were as honest rock n roll as you could get..kinda Ray Davies-ish this one. Can't wait to see Mr. Hunter on Oct 3rd in Glasgow ! Thanks again mate.

  • @johnmckinlay67 no problem my good friend. i hope you have a great time at Glasgow

  • Sucks that these guys never achieved the fame they deserve. I think they're right up there with Queen, T. Rex, and Slade. Although I have to say, Slade are just about on their very own level. If you check out how long they were together and how much output of great songs and tv and film performances. Literally nobody knew who Mott the Hoople was in the USA in the mid 1980s. I only discovered them because I researched them after seeing All the young dudes on a K-tel type compilation album.

  • yeah i agree

  • Something tells me Brian May listened to Mick's playing a LOT. Both are great players....DR. Brian May now, and poor Mick, RIP.

  • Ariel Bender and Mick Ronson were both great, Mott was always a really good band

  • going back to the 1960s and 1970s every jethro tull east coast USA appearance first contained bon bons by mott the hoople... two-fer-one bonus. felt like we were all in a great conspiracy of great music... and we were

  • Reflective and whimsical, Ian Hunter reminiscing in his insouciant way. Their last UK hit, only reaching number 41, but a belter nevertheless. Still have this on vinyl .....great post of a vastly underrated song. Thanks!

  • one of their songs, very special!!!!!

  • Bender actually did the basic guitar track for "Saturday Gigs" just as Mick Ralphs did for "Roll Away The Stone" - Ronno played over him just as he played over Ralphs. Weird how Hunter did things.

Bender was the man - great in Spooky, Stealers Wheel, Mott and later Widowmaker.

  • @DOGDICE01 You needed to be at the Greyhound mate ;)

  • I love this song !

"And then we went to Croydon" - one of my favourite rock'n'roll lines of all time.
