i went to japan long time ago...lots of people wanted to "practice their english" with me...i went along with it. When i came back to USA a couple of times i approached japanese nationals in the USA to "try out my nihongo"--i almost always got back a lukewarm, polite but unfriendly response from them. I'm not ever gonna "practice my english" with some random japanese off the street again...young, old, drunk sober, whatever....they can sign up for ESL classes or hire me as a private tutor
