As I am trying to take my video production on YouTube a little more seriously, I thought I would invest in a lighting system so that you can marvel at my glorious appearance in stunning HD - either that or be made copiously sick my the hideousness of my gurning, bloated phizzog.

So I purchased the Rotolight Creative Colour Kit featuring the RL48 LED light array. I bought it because it was small, easily mountable and ran off three AA batteries and would be ideal for my uses.

Here you see me unboxing the product and giving my thoughts on it.

  • Sorry to tell you - you should send that Rotolight back because it makes you looking different but not better. 1.) your eyes can't stand the bright light 2.) your skin looks greesy. 3.) the light is cold. Actually I liked the first image better.

Never trust LED light to make the lightening for you.

  • @TRUMPITI Thanks for the constructive comment. However, I was just using the light bare with just a diffuser gel to show what it was like out of the box. I have subsequently been using some of the colour effect gels that came with the light and have found a light tone that is more complimentary. But, alas, I am still fuck-ugly with greasy skin - nothing in this lifetime will ever change that! ;-)

  • Looks handy, but still a little bit "plasticy" for my tastes, but I suppose a more pro model would cost a small fortune.

  • @NoBoogerHere Yes, it is plasticky - but solid, so if you do have a mishap, it's not going to break easily. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to lighting so I wanted something easy to start with. I am very surprised how good the filters and coloured gels are - they certainly make a difference and I am having an interesting time experimenting with light.

  • @vrooomuk Hi Darren, yes I saw your new video and it looks much better. But I'd like to introduce so to the Sandman filmschool where soft lighting was discussed, see Youtube: /watch?v=syC3eKz24kM. When you watch how the advertise of rotolight has been produced (/watch?v=P52eoQK_J7k) you will see that they didn't use rotolight as they suggest it to the regular user. They use two and lots of skin powder and to introduce some warm color they didn't photograph an kaukasian. --- I am not convinced.

  • Ouch... 169 Quid. That's a tad dear for what it is as you mention in your vid...

Works well tho.... it sure lit you up!

    Thanks for the review Darren...
