In this CNN video Putin shows he's all about Stalinism, sending in troops to Georgia, bombing T'bilisi Airport, occupying Senaki in Western Georgia, and sending troops to overrun Gori.

Notice that the reporter says Russia claims 2,000 were killed in the South Ossetian capitol of Tskhinvali but this number cannot be "independently verified." Translation: Statements from the Russian government have zero credibility and mean nothing until somebody reliable can back them up.

The Russian government is used to telling lies and having those lies believed in Russia where they have murdered all the independent journalists, like Anna Politkovskaya. They have gotten so accustomed to having their lies believed that they think they can pump out whatever garbage they want on Russia Today and have it believed by the world.

  • I knew it. I knew there was a reason that no video had come out of Tskhinvali showing anything like 2,000 dead civilians. According to the Wall Street Journal, the local hospital (used to store bodies because the morgue lost electricity in the fighting) contains 45 dead. Human Rights Watch puts the number at 44.

  • ...Kosovo was Clinton's doing (Bush wasn't in power. I don't care if you don't like him, he's the president). If it was wrong then, it is wrong now. Georgia should be allowed to solve its own problems and Russia doesn't care about SO any more than it cares about "humanitarian" concerns (see chechnya). Why would they be bullying the Ukraine and Poland if it wasn't just one big power grab?

  • A shout out to littl3x for the most rational, best informed comments in this thread.

  • well maybe georgia shouldnt have bombed 1000+ civilion who want nothing to do with the georgian government. Russia came in to protect them, and started having fun so they bombed for an extra day or two after georgian military was crying in the corner pleading for the west to help them.

  • Sure, the Georgian attack on Tskhinvali was one of the points of escalation in this situation. But it's not like the Georgians weren't provoked by Ossetian separatists. And don't tell me Russia gave them passports. If Russia gives everybody on Guam passports, that doesn't make them Russians. South Ossetia is within the borders of the sovereign nation of Georgia. Yes, that means it's not appropriate for another country to invade that territory.

  • You say they were provoked by Ossetian separatists. Did those Ossetians take US tanks and weapons and brutally kill over 2000 Georgian civilians? Not so much. The Georgians massacred many women, children and old folks in Tskhinvali without a thought and you say that its okay? Get your head checked.

  • I already agree, as you can see from my last comment, that Georgia escalated the level of violence with their attack on Tskhinvali. Unfortunately, the only source of information on Tskhinvali has been the Russians. I don't consider a government that murders journlists, such as Anna Politkovskaya, to be an accurate source of information. So if and when a reporter from a news organization that I trust goes to Tskhinvali and sees hundreds of bodies in the morgue, then I'll believe it.

  • ...and you aid them in their ignorance. if they think that nazism is fascism, then they're wrong and it's a bad example. You just admitted it above. Thanks.

  • OMG!!! wrong or not, everytime people think fascism they THINK NAZIS!!!! so i used it as an example, my god can't you get it through your head? Now if you think about NAZIS then other things might come up to mind ( including fascism) but the point is when people THINK FASCISM they think NAZI, now Mussolinis Italy might be more of an "acurate" example of fascism but people tend to think less of them, because there role in history is small in comparison, so i used the nazis as an example.

  • which is WHY saying fascism = Nazis is wrong because they're not the same. Seriously. So if you're going to educate someone on fascism, using that example is a poor one because Nazism is derived from facism but it is true facism. True facism was invented by Mussolini.

  • no.. when people think Hitler and or the Nazis they think of fascism, concentration camps, WW2 etc. so your wrong ..again

  • Oh yeah. I read that days ago. Not saying that Georgia is a saint in all of this, but Russia should stay away from what is in essence a civil war. It certainly had no right or call to enter Georgia proper and then stay there.

  • ah, when people think of Hitler and the Nazis, they think of concentration camps and taking over countries, not economic systems. So no, people won't learn through that example. You didn't even say "the economic system used by Hitler' you just said "Hitler."

  • good job Russia

  • OMG are you stupid?, it was an example dumbass, alot of people associate Fascism with hitlers nazi, and i use it as an example because more people would understand. MY GOD i hate dumb people.
