@geppegep By 'religious people' I was referring specifically to theists. Even now for example, the people who steadfastly reject the fact of evolution are theists for no other reason than its perceived threat to their religious dogma.

@ritchloui theres no stereotypical group called "religious people" you cant put billions of people into one same group and distance yourself from them making yourself better, and how the fuck can anyone know what would happen if there were no religion which would could not ever have happened

@DuTriDu I am not saying that this proves the existence of God.Perhaps, however ,it may just possibly be an important factor to consider in relation to our conversation regarding the existence of the God in whom Bach trusted. You are correct in pointing out that he came from a musical family .The Bible says that more is expected from those who have been given more(eg Bach's background) ;I think that we can agree that Bach gave us so much through his( I believe divine) musical calling.
-
@TheHumbuckerboy I fail to see how any of this adds verasity to the existence of the God he believed in. He thought it was God, he believed it so. However, that does not make it so. Especially considering Bach was born into a very musical family and taught from a very young age. We'll probably have to agree to disagree yet this doesn't prevent both of us from appreciating his talent, wherever it originated.

@gamegloss It would help if you could name at least one of these geniuses .I can tell you the names of several Bible believing Christians who have made greatly helpful discoveries in the fields of science and medicine .Here goes...Sir Isaac Newton , Marie Curie,Louis Pasteur and( in music),J S Bach and Handel etc.Do you really consider yourself (or any "geniuses" today) to be more intelligent than these people? Christ would never condone the ill treatment or killing of anyone in his name !
-
@TheHumbuckerboy I said that the contemporary genius cannot help but reject the biblical definition of God. If he can accept any at all.
I hope you see how that is different. An intelligent person who has no vested interest in the existence of God has no excuse to believe anymore. We don't burn books, we don't torture and kill dissenters and heretics, and more importantly we have access to the internet. Information is free. I believe that a genius needs to be intelligent, as well as creative.

@blackbeltste - A radiation plant is a tree that glows in the dark.
@PaulMcTube I'll associate with whoever I please thank you very much. I don't know about you , but I live in a free society, and I have that right. Anyway, people are welcome to beleive whatever fairy tales they like, just leave them at the church door and don't bring them into our schools and government and you won't hear any complaints from me.

@DuTriDu Yes. I can't help but find it rather galling that religious people having spent the last 2,000 years making it nigh impossible for anyone to have any choice in the matter and tightly controlling knowledge and literacy then smugly say, ah well Christians/Muslims made this or that contribution to science and maths. How much more would have been achieved without the strictures of religious intolerance for curiosity, skepticism and evidence-based reasoning we will never know.
