i believe to beat Barcelona you need someone in the middle that can dribble, you look at who covers in the center, xavi, iniesta, busquets, none of these guys are athletes and the way they always press after a few tackles yellows will go out and that will really open the middle of the pitch

He clearly copies Sergio Busquets in the way he plays, he never used to play like this.

We just lacked a class attacking midfielder.

There's absolutely no debate as to whether he was our best midfielder because he was by far. Giggs was shambolic and Park was non-existent.. Carrick kept Barca outside our box for the most part and went the right way about it.
So he got taught a lesson by Xavi and Iniesta? Well add him to the long, long list of players who have been taught a lesson by those two maestros.. i.e. everyone they've ever faced!

He plays to slow. Don't no how people say he might have been our best player. Was definitely put to school against Xavi and Iniesta!

if it was up to me carrick would be in the england starting 11 every time.
giggs shouldn't have played this match. he had a terrible game which was probably related to all the news stories about him the weeks leading up to it.

Well done Carrick. The only player who realised how to beat Barca, just move the ball faster and better then they do. LOL, sounds so easy when you say it like that....

Scholes is still and always has been a much, much better passer, playmaker and footballer but he's not really a top player anymore. Michael Carrick, whether you're a fan of him or not, is our best midfielder. Not outstanding, it's not in his role to stand out, but he's a good player, a very good team player and he's no worse than that. He gets called average and poor a lot but that's honestly ridiculous. He's been our most regular and consistent midfielder over the past 6 years.

Most of his passes are forward, he plays a high number of square or backwards passes but so does every midfielder, especially defensive/holding players.
As for not the player he once was. He's arguably in the best form of his career RIGHT NOW. The difference is he hasn't got a peak Scholes beside him anymore. wait until we pair Cleverley with him, it will all make sense. Still, Carrick is 31 now, we have to replace him soon with a more dynamic box-to-box player.
Carrick is very under rated in my opinion
