he has such nice form, I imagine this is what the seasoned archers of medieval armies looked like

Thank you for taking and posting this video.
This will be the form that I will work to emulate this winter.

@treaclebolly Longbow = string does not touch the limbs of the bow... do not over think it!

Just one problem. He is using a flatbow and not a longbow which has a 'D' shaped profile, which this bow clearly doesn't.
-
Great form-- such a smooth release. It's hard to see a flaw even in slow motion.

3 FU gives you an advantage, from my experience, only at short distances, considerably reducing the gap. It depends a lot of the bow poundage, and arrow speed, when choosing the technique. I imagine, speaking of the rules, the mediteraneean loose was not the only one used in the past. If somebody used in the past only once a thight nock, he considered the possibility of using 3FU loose. So why not admit it in the game? A high speed laminated bow has a bigger gap than a traditional selfbow.

I can't see how he can be classed as the 'world' champion when he's using the '3 finger under' (3FU) loose. In the UK we're not permitted to use that kind of loose; we have to use the 'Mediterranean Loose' (1 finger above, 2 below the arrow), because the NFAS says the 3FU gives an unfair advantage by allowing you to sight better down the arrow. Also he's not shooting a longbow, but rather an American Flatbow. He may be good, but it's not a level playing field if he's using a different technique.

Called simply that.. Three finger under. I shoot that way. A matter of opinion.
@treaclebolly
How is that a problem? There are many definitions of "longbow". Just because it doesn't fit your definition doesn't mean it's a problem. Next thing you'll be telling me is it's a problem that I'm eating potato chips because they are actually called crisps. and my cookies are really biscuits.

@Abwendon
1) 3FU is not an advantage in your competition of choice, field archery. The long distances actually make it harder on a 3FU shooter.
2)The goal is to hit the mark. Is it not wise to use the technique best suited to doing so if the rules allow it?
3)He is an IBO World champion. Nobody said he is the best shot in the world. He plays by the rules of that organization and does exceedingly well.
