How to identify the switched live wire at a ceiling rose ( united kingdom). Often people remove old light fittings without identifying the switched live wire, which means it is almost impossible to tell which wires go where without a multimeter. This video shows you how to identify the switched live wire. Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/

  • IF THIS COMMENT ACTUALLY GETS APPROVED THEN UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU EVER PRESUME THE CIRCUIT IS DEAD JUST BY SWITCHING THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OFF!!!!! AFTER SWITCHING OFF YOU ALWAYS TEST TO SEE IF VOLTAGE IS PRESENT WITH A VOLTAGE TESTER BETWEEN LIVE,NEUTRAL AND EARTH AT THE FITTING BEFORE CONTINUING

  • @mozer30

That is correct. I'll make a video on safe isolation procedures when I get chance and add it to this one. I never relied on the MCB for isolation in this case and also switched off all other switches in the consumer unit and the main switch!

  • @ultimatehandyman ive got no problem with the video's you make, infact they are far more instructive than most, but i read a previous comment on a video you made months ago that stated using safe isolation too,you replied with exactly the same comment. The thing is it will take only a matter of 30 seconds to demonstrate using a voltage detector to insure the circuit is safe to work on.It should be priority above anything else! the majority of viewers will need educating on that,regards..Dave

  • @mozer30

Thanks Dave, I'll get one sorted as soon as I get chance ;-)

  • Mate this video has been of a lot of help to me. This was exactly the problem I needed to solve and you've been spot on crystal clear and well explained step by step. Thank you again. You deserve a place on my YouTube subs
