Another short game that seemed much harder in my days as a youth. It's a cool game, though. You fight ninjas. You can throw shurikens. You can jump really high and climb trees.

This run was a bit of a pain in the ass to accomplish. It's a very short game, yes, but the game does its best to make sure you get hit at least a few times.

I know it's a bit redundant but I had to continuously swing my sword to block shurikens and swords. But that was no guarantee that you couldn't get hit. There was about a 1 in 100 chance your sword wouldn't block the attack.

The red ninjas throw these grenade-type balls at you that can't be blocked. You'll see me get hit by them a few times.

The blue and red monks are cheap as hell. They shoot fire at you, many times with supreme accuracy. Plus, the programmers messed up the area of contact with the flame. You can duck it, clearly avoiding all flame pixels, and still get hit by it. I've out-jumped the flames and been hit. It sucks. Sometimes you just get lucky.

There are some cool items in this game:

1. Orbs - They look like the balls that the red ninjas throw at you. They give you different colored clothing (green/orange) and new abilities (run faster/jump higher/bigger shurikens.

2. Floating Monsters - They come in three different colors (grey/blue/red). The grey ones give you lots of points. The blue ones give you an extra life. The red ones will either make you invincible or let you throw 8 shurikens at once in different directions. The blue ones only appear after you have killed 7 blue ninjas with your sword in the water in level two. The grey and red ones appear at random.

3. Hyphens - I don't know what else to call them. They're very small and its color depends on the color of your outfit. Whenever you touch one, you immediately drop to the ground and put your hands together. Then, enemies begin dying all around you. You can't move until it has finished. It gives you a lot of bonus points. It stops after about 8,000 or 10,000. The black ninjas in level three always drop a hyphen after you kill them.

A lot of people think the game ends after the first time you rescue the princess and that it just keeps repeating. But you actually have to rescue her three times.

After you rescue the princess, you have to fight a boss. In order to be able to kill the boss you have to hit the butterfly floating above you 5 times. The bosses are relatively easy. They only need one hit to die. Make sure you take the butterfly down as quickly as possible. The first boss throws flames at you. The second and third bosses block a lot. Use your sword if you are standing close to a boss. Throw a shuriken if you're far away.

Some notes:
-Played on a FCEUX emulator
-No cheats or savestates were used
-Played at full speed

  • Damn you make this look so easy. I've never beaten this game without game genie. I'd say it's harder than battletoads. The fireball enemies are a bitch. Pop out of nowhere and BAM! instantly dead.

  • Thanks, Luigi.

It really didn't take that many attempts. I was going for no-hit at first but there were just way too many cheap moments where those orbs got me.

  • how many times does he gotta save the bitch? he better get some luvin after all that.

  • one of the best game back in the 80's

  • MASTER!!!!!!!!!

  • They had great ideas back then. But they didnt have the tech to execute it.

  • I play this on NES when i was little.

At that time, for some reason, i always thought that the blue ninja 'spoon-ed' the princess with his foot.

  • @HolyknightVader999 Rinnegan? Sage of six paths?

  • @watef3 It's the Jesus jutsu.....

Don't interrupt me.....I'm talking to God.......

  • I have it on a "80-in-1" cartridge. The player controls make it ideal to hack into a Matrix game. :D

Btw, that cart has full-speed Galaxian version. Pretty cool to play after those half-speed slow galaxians.

  • I loved this game as a kid... I used to love this Kage guy because of his bravery to rescue the princess...
