The Steiner Waldorf Schools Fellowship commissioned ITN to make this short film to look at some of the key features of a Steiner School including:
- how Steiner Schools nurture spiritual development in keeping with the cultural setting of the school and without being tied to a particular faith;
- the emphasis on "doing" to complement academic learning;
- how the absence of testing in the younger years nurtures enthusiasm for learning;
- the importance of quietness and contemplation as part of the school day.

    This video goes a long way to conveying the benefits to humanity (sorry but no exaggeration) of Steiner education. But in my opinion it is even better than this. Well done though a great taster. I only wish all of my children had gone to a Steiner school rather than waiting until the third. Most of all, watching & sharing my daughter's experience, I wish I had gone to a Steiner school myself. I'm sure many parents watching this video will think the same.

    So good you've put together in video this presentation. It is a down to earth approach of Steiner's education, sometime so misinterpreted as a light hippieish kind of teaching.

    Wish my old school had been like this. We almost never did something practical and it was all about passing the exams. Also, it was more against each other than doing things together, helping each other and learning to understand different kinds of people. Not at all....my teacher once sent me to a counsellor for drug problems (!) because i was "unnormaly quiet". Alright...

    Well done!!! Well done to all who have given their time, their efforts and their courage to building these educational communities around the world. I have been unable to find any greater medicine for this time in the world then a Steiner education. All those who embark on this journey to bring children and their families this brilliant educational experience are heroes of the greatest order!!! Thank you for making this informative and inspiring video!!!

    then that negative experience tends to get attributed to steiner and his methods in general even if it actually had more to do with the circumstances of that particular school.

    that's one of the most important points in discussions about the merits of steiner education in general. The quality of the learning experience can vary so much from one steiner school to another depending on both the teachers there at the time and the individuals making up the core of the school and their respective views and prejudices etc. In some cases that works out better than others and where someone has an experience or encounter with a school that hasn't worked out so well,

    Great video-showing the benefits of a child led education as opposed to the prescriptive viewpoint in most state schools. This journalist visited my daughters old Steiner school a few years ago.A Steiner education is wonderful but very reliant on both the school ( unregulated and new schools can have one disaster after another ) and the class teacher ( We had 5 teachers in 5 years) The last teacher my daughter had was the most heartless, malicious and incompassionate woman I have ever met.
