Thanks YTC - my friend has recently had all charges dropped and has been flown home - Dubai authorities seemed to see sense at the same time as when the BBC arrived in Dubai to report on the general problem of these kind of detentions.

This info is not really accurate. i was searched once in Dubai because i had a long hair. they expected to find some drugs, but in fact they didn't find anything; so they le me go. Yes, I agree that the legal system there is f-----. But this man is an adult and am sure he knew what he was doing and where he was going... I am sure he will be freed soon if he has a European Passport.

Thanks for that - good to know they don't arrest EVERYONE. My friend absolutely knew about Dubai's strict laws ( e.g. he does not use, but he knew about purging your body a week before you visit ) The point is there is nothing he or ANYONE can do to avoid being the target of this kind of unjust detainment. He has now been held without charge for more than a month - that is unacceptable , and Khalidfa, you do him and other innocent people in his situation no service by defending what's happened

My best friend is being held since two weeks+ over lint in his pockets they claim to be cannabis. He was held in isolation until he signed a paper in arabic which they wouldn't translate for him. After that they said he was going to be deported but have just dumped him in prison without any further information.

The worst case of a holiday disaster would have to be Schapelle Corby's injustice case, she was wrongfully convicted for something she did not do, she was just going to have a two week holiday in Bali and that was 5 yeas a go,she has been locked up in a cell since the day she got there, she was sentenced to twenty years...please help her look at her utube videos.

I forgot to mention that a real holiday disaster is what happened to Schapelle Corby in Bali. Am sure that you heard about hear story. A pretty young woman sentenced to 20 years in jail... this was the real holiday disaster.

Man, am not defending dubai. I've had enough trouble with the law here. Once, I was called by a criminal investgation department officer. and when i went there, (to the police station,) they wanted to detain me for 12 hours until the new shift arrives in the morning, since the man who sued me refused do drop the charges against me. guess why? for sending an sms message to a pimp in which i asked him "for how much his wife goes out for a full night". But my lawyer came and managed to get me out.
