All of the A countries in this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries

... except Akrotiri and Dhekelia - I couln't find a photo of that place.

Have you been to any of these countries? I've only been to Australia - and I hadn't heard of half of the countries.
I looked up how to pronounce the names, but I'm sure I got some of them wrong anyway. Feel free to point out my mistakes.

  • Akrotiri and Dhekelia is part of Cyprus that is legally under British control

  • For the record, Azerbaijan means Land of Fire, because of the ancients' use of its petroleum resources. This dates back to the earliest Persian Empires. I might guess that Azerbaijan is well and away the oldest surviving country name.

  • I agree. That letter comes after z in the Finnish and Swedish alphabet, so it's at the end, not in the beginning.

  • I don't think Åland should be included. Å is not the same as A.
