Stay 2'ned for more - IBM OS/2 Marketing Video. "Instead programs like this, try programs like this. With OS/2 on yor PC you can powerfull programs like Lotus SmartSuite for OS/2 and thousend for Windows Program too. Stay 2'ned for more.
That is the problem with IBM (marketing) since they didn't know how to market their great product. They wanted to compete with Microsoft, but didn't put the effort into it that Microsoft did. IBM was primarily concerned with Mainframes and the software for them and OS/2 and PC's was an experiment which they didn't want to spend too much time with. That is why they no longer sell them.
In "The road Ahead" by Bill Gates he states that Microsoft left the OS/2 Project since IBM wanted to make it for the BIG computers too and not only for the desktop computers making the development of a compatible hierarchy complicated and therefore it could be hard to install Windows programs. If I remember it right...
Anyway, can anyone confirm?
I like OS/2, although I only run it in Microsoft VPC 2007...
i grew up smack dab in the silicon valley, i was exposed to a variety of different operating systems starting at 5 years old, os\2 was to me one of the most stable systems compared to windows, excluding mac os and Unix distributions;which were probably more compatible and efficient, os\2 warp 4 paved the way for all of modern gui based wysiwyg platforms, microsoft just carbon copied it and made it worse instead of better
I use to use OS/2 Warp 3.0 and even used 4. OS/2 Rocked!!! Windows was crap compared to it. As
dbodiford said it was even better than Win 95 and even Win 98. What it lacked was drivers and that blame falls upon IBM and their marketing team. But truth is that we are all children of OS/2. The Windows NT Platform began by building on an OS/2 kernel that MS stole when they broke with IBM in the development of OS/2.
@Dojan5 My 16-bit Windows Applications ran perfectly in OS/2. The problem was that Windows 3.0 become a hot seller.
