Emerging filly Rose Syrah stamped herself as a spring contender after completing a hat-trick of wins with a barnstorming effort in the $100,000 Rivette Series Final at Flemington.

The Tony Noonan-trained filly was no closer than three wide in the run before jockey Brad Rawiller pulled her into clear galloping room at the 400 metres and Rose Syrah buried her rivals in 100 metres, eventually scoring by 2-3/4 lengths.

Vitex worked across from the outside draw to sit near the speed and gave her all in the straight for Craig Williams to hang on for second place narrowly ahead of $51 chance Airways.

Noonans stable foreman Wes Hunter was extremely confident about the chances of Rose Syrah midweek and his confidence was justified with the ease of the daughter of Testa Rossas win.

Shes just an outstanding filly, Hunter said. Shell go the paddock and Tony (Noonan) can find a suitable race for her in the spring.

Hopefully she can measure up a level or two higher in the spring.

The $2.25 favourite Chameleon had a decent run on the rail in the early and middle stages but failed to finish the race off as well as she has in her previous runs, battling into fourth.

Placings and margins: Rose Syrah (B Rawiller) 56.5kg ($8) defeated Vitex (C Williams) 54.5kg ($17) by 2-3/4 lengths with a long neck back to Airways (D Yendall) 53kg ($51) in third place.

Winners breeding Rose Syrah is a three-year-old gelding by Testa Rossa out of Rose Between (Kala Dancer (GB)).

The times The field covered the mile in 1.37.92 with the last 600 run in 35.24 seconds.

What they said She let down like a really good filly. Shes got plenty of upside, said Brad Rawiller, winning rider of Rose Syrah.

From the gate we actually got across reasonably well. She battled on well, said Craig Williams, rider of Vitex (2nd).

She ran a bottler for a ten furlong race, said Dean Yendall, rider of Airways (3rd).

We had a great run but she didnt let down. Maybe the 57kg anchored her a bit, said Michael Rodd, rider of Chameleon (4th).

She had her chance today, said Damien Oliver, rider of Chortova (6th).

The market Chameleon was all the rage in the pre-post markets and was solid at $2.25 throughout the on-course market. Rose Syrah opened at $7.50 but drifted to start at $8. Chortova was specked from $10 into $9

The market closed at 117 percent.
