  • nottingham city transport offerd some there drivers a job i beleive

  • Yep they certainly did, my first day as a bus driver for Nottingham City Transport was blocking stops with a double decker bus.

Then I did a run on a service 89, but i didnt get far as i was blocked in by Nottingham Omnibus.

  • i bet you turned round at fiveways island blocked em of from there

  • I wish i had but I never made it, I was wedged in on Mansfield Road. a few weeks later tho Nottingham Omnibus drivers started just dumping their buses and going home, leaving the buses where they stopped. I think if they have had newer buses and branched out slower they would have wiped NCT out.

  • i was one off the driver's with nottingham omnibus, and the only time i remember anyone "dumping" there bus was once, a driver went off to see his girlfreind and just left it, and as for us taking over from nct well you actually have to have revenue coming in to cover costs, never mind take over's

  • Shame the revenue wasnt there, it would have been good for NCT to have good competition, they have been to big for too long.

  • Did Omnibus give change or exact fare policy?

  • Love the bus at 1:39

  • nottingham omnibus was short lived are the atlanteans still in sevice

  • I was always on the platform,at 16yo mainly on the 29s and with Rob Shepherdson (last heard of as Rural transport officer at SYPTE) when he travelled down for his Sunday stint, usually with one of those awful ex-mersyside Atlanteans. Made it onto Bellamy's RMs as Conductor last year. Now looking forward to Premiere who are looking at setting up a new commercial operation in Nottingham. Hopefully as the City Council supports most of their town services, they may actually stand a fighting chance.

  • i totally agree with you, i sometimes wonder if the people of nottingham regret not using us now, and yes hindsight is a wonderful thing i know.

maybe one day another operator will have the balls to take them on

  • I remember drivers at NCT talking about a special 'Competition rota', which was set up specifically to go chasing after Nottingham Omnibus! Real maverick stuff...wish I'd have been there.
