Discussing Hate Crimes in America - Stereotypes and Prejudices:

Many of us have hidden bias sometimes unconscious, or automatic, biases. Your own willingness to examine your possible biases is an important.

We need to understand the roots of stereotypes and prejudice in our society as a whole.

Stereotypes are based on images in mass media, or reputations passed on by people we look up to such as, peers, parent’s even employers and other public fugues of society.

Hate crimes never happen in my city since the police NEVER report them. We had a severely disabled gay man get struck in the head with an aluminum bat. The police came to the scene and tasered the gay man. The drug addict who attacked him only received a 100-day sentence. Neither the assault or the tasering were released to the local newspaper . . . like all other crimes are. This is the corrupt law enforcement of Burlington, IA.
