Leyend goes that Ponce's wife (the author's wife) were getting poor because Ponce, the composer, kept working on grandiose works of music (now also famous). The first Mexican composer to train in France, his manuscripts are worth a lot, today. Anyway, when one's wife gets on the war-path one better listen. She said: "Manuel, can't you compose something SIMPLE that everyone can understand? Can't you just make a simple song? We don't have anything to eat!"..... Estrellita was the product, then.
