The Sicamous RCMP and the Sicamous Search and Rescue Team attended to a single car off road right collision on Hwy 97A at around 2:30 pm Sunday near Mara Lake south.

The Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of a single southbound car, off road right at around 2:30 pm, Sunday afternoon October 24, 2010. The collision occurred near the Crystal Sands area of Mara Lake south along Hwy 97A.

RCMP found a full size sedan had left the roadway on the right side in a curve and had gone down an embankment where it impacted a tree. The car had four occupants on board, two adult females and two young children, both children were properly secured in infant restraints and the adults had used their seatbelts.

The 20 yr old female driver from Kelowna suffered a broken arm. The adult front passenger and mother of both child passengers, a 23 yr old woman also from Kelowna suffered minor injuries. The woman's 4 yr old daughter was uninjured, however her other child, a 3 month old girl suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The Sicamous Search and Rescue Team and the Enderby Fire Dept attended to assist and used the Jaws of Life to extract the occupants, with the Vernon North Okanagan Detachment also assisting with partial road closure controls. Highway traffic was reduced to one lane alternating for some time and re-opened earlier this evening.

The RCMP Southeast District Traffic Services collision analyst attended to examine the scene. At this time investigators have ruled out alcohol as being a contributing factor. Weather and road conditions were not optimum at the time of the collision, investigators are collecting evidence in order to determine the causal factor of the collision.

The Sicamous RCMP and BC Coroners Services are continuing their investigation into the crash and the death of the 3 month old infant. The Sicamous RCMP and its Victim Services are doing their utmost to assist both families following this tragic incident.
