Song: Capoeira

Guitar simulating a berimbau?

"The berimbau is a single-string percussion instrument, a musical bow,
from Brazil.
The berimbau was eventually incorporated into the practice of the
Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira, where it commands how the
capoeiristas move in the roda."

I read a comment that was correct about the origin of "berimbau"... it's not from Brazil... but in my reasearches, we can't say precisely the origin of "berimbau".

With this video description it's not my intention teach about anything, just give you extra information...

The song have three parts (warm-up, the dance and the fight) These parts
are represented in the video by three colors (blue, green and red). Each
change, the color appears below the video.

I'd like to explain the "concept" of simulating other sonorities/instruments...
More examples:
Go to:
http://www.myspace.com/xaxaportilho

listen the song "Fevereiro" (February)... guitar simulating a "cuíca"...

And then go to:
http://www.myspace.com/mezzexperimental

listen the 4th song... named "Brisas" (Breezes)... (pay attention in 2:42 - 2:55)... my guitar simulating a "brezze"

Now, it's easy to understand the concept of "simulating"...
Yes, it's not a breeze, not a cuíca and not a berimbau... but remember the instrument/ sound.

Ok, just a little more:

Guitar simulating a berimbau?
I'm not trying to simulate the timber of a berimbau.
With no effect i "change" the sound of my strings to appear/pretend like a "percussive" sound.
Note when i "cross" the strings i create a variation of a berimbau"s "notes".

Ok, who know the rythms of a capoeira already knew that is not a "toque de berimbau"...

Listen in (0:38 - 0:54) and (3:14 - 3:26) an instrument called "agogô" play a "toque de berimbau"

  • @235Oscar

    This BT doesn't have MIDI,

I played guitars (solo and rhytm) and bass.

I edited all percussion instruments... "split" a lot to fit in 120 BPM
