@Penningtontj Agreed. He allowed his desire for revenge poison his mind to the point where he became as bad as those he sought to destroy. It just didn't become fully obvious until he planted multiple psi emitters on Tarsonis. Only then did he show his true colors. It seems to me though that he did it more for his little sister Dorothy (and perhaps his mom) then for his father based on what I read in the book "I, Mengsk". Betcha Dorothy would be upset to see how far her brother's fallen....

They didnt just kill Mengsks familly, they destroyed his planet, so in return he called zerg on Chau Sara, Mar sara and Tarsonis, Protoss came by shortly to "purify" those planets. So the Terrans united "No matter the cost" Mengsk killed 3 plantes of people to unite the terrans

The thing to remember, Tarsonis didn't make Mengsk ruthless. He was like that from the start, ever since the Confederacy killed his family. He just played the part of the charasmatic rebel leader while it suited him, and took up the role of a "benevolent" tyrant when that suited him.

The reason the propaganda works better in SC1 is Mengsk is trying to unite the Terran factions, which is apparently easier than keeping them together, which is what he's trying to do in SC2.
