@NCTurbulence Indeed they have, considering that would be over £4,000 in today's money. Then again it was considered the top of the range technology at the time.
Great adverts including Miller Lite, Cadbury and ADT that sponsored the London Marathon at the time in 1989. Who was the announcer in the Guardian advert? Was he the one that also did this in a memorable 1986 advert titled 'The Whole Picture' filmed in black and white?
Being nosy - anyone remember what the 'This Week' special was? I assumed it was Death on the Rock - though Robin's post below talks about this being 'post-Death on the Rock' so I'm not sure.
That Guardian 'people are like the papers they read' ad was quite funny - hadn't seen that one before.
And I remember finding the Miller Lite one really touching - I rememer the Hollies re-releasing 'He Ain't Heavy' shortly after.
Central were, without doubt, the innovators when it came to promoting their channel in the late 1980s. Great CGI, clever scripting and Paul Vasey (spelling?) on fine vocal form.

I'm pretty sure that the music from that "Guardian" advert is from the "Drowning By Numbers" soundtrack by Michael Nyman...

I would say that was Thames showing their nerves post-Death on the Rock, except I think that's a Central font on the trailer ...
