WATCH THE HIGH QUALITY VERSION.

This is a song about a car... it's called "Red Barchetta". This is my fav Rush song and the one that started my long time love affair with Rush after seeing the video from ESL on MTV (remember when MTV used to play music videos?). The music for this song is just as exhilarating as the story in the lyrics.

As I can't play like Alex Lifeson, this is my interpretation of the song, so don't expect it to be note for note.

The guitar is a PRS Hollowbody II - feel free to rate and comment. Don't forget to sing along too!

LYRICS
Inspiried by a nice morning drive, by Richard S. Foster
Words by Neil Peart, music by Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm, before the motor law
And on sundays I elude the eyes and hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire, where my white-haired uncle waits.

Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind,
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me, an old machine ---
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car
A brilliant red barchetta, from a better, vanished time
I fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime...

Wind in my hair ---
Shifting and drifting ---
Mechanical music ---
Adrenalin surge ---

Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware

Suddenly, ahead of me, across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires, to run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase

Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud
With fear and hope, Ive got a desperate plan

At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded
At the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle
At the fireside...

  • how's the piezo on that PRS?

  • @eduardobadra Check out my cover of Rush's Hope for the piezo sounds.

  • awesome cover! i can't quite nail the rythm part starting at at 1:49. I can't tell what chord that is!

  • @drksyduvthamoon It's an FMaj7 of sorts (x33210), then you take your middle finger off (x33010) and back on again, then slide it up to the third fret . (x55430). Hope that explains it, if not feel free to ask :)

  • Did anyone else see the BOSS fret inlays. Those are BEASTTT. It has to be a custom guitar.(obviously)

  • @hammockrat1 Aren't those fret inlays nice? The guitar is just a stock Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody II with piezo, available at your nearest PRS Dealer :)

  • Awesome cover

  • I chop it up, but, I'm never asked to stop playing it. One thing's certain, I will never be Alex, but, I sure enjoy his style. Nice job here on the cover. I play a "Stagg" strat copy.

  • Great job, but not quite perfect. I use any and every souce I can to get things note perfect. If you did this straight by ear, then awesome.
