as a student studying telecommunications engineering, you are completely wrong. The safety interlock switches in the door cut the magnetron off before the door is open, even if you managed to make microwave operate with a door open, you would have to be pretty close to absorb high amounts of radiation. The radiation is non-ionizing, it's different to the radiation from an xray or an atomic bomb as it does not create genetic mutation.
