wow this could be really a great business or something even to teach to many people... and can be great for people so they do not have to buy electricity even in third world countries.. or even in cold weather climates for people....how wonderful to be so smart.

Have you ever tried half silvering the glass, like that in cop shows, so heat and light is reflected back into the box?

nice!

what was your saving on your electric just about?

Amazing! What's in the pop cans to keep them centered?

Do you have a step by step tutorial on this project?

I want to build a hot water heater to add heat to my basement. Do you think the cans do anything to add heat to the copper pipe? I am thinking of just copper or plastic (pool heater style) pipe, painted black and then run it to a heat exchanger with a circulator pump run off a thermostat. The cans make for more work and take up space. I am using a patio door as my glazing.

@skid4u When I built my second collector I thought it would be equal heat inside the cans but it was not. With no water in the copper pipes I had 129 degrees air temp. in the top manifold and 155 degrees on the copper pipes. When I put water through it the temps. came down. My test setup was 21 sq. ft collector 2 gpm water flow (should have been .75 gpm for that size collector but no control valve)and a 235 cfm blower for the air. It heated the water 5 degrees every time it went through

Because you run cold water through it. doe that cause the hot air to lose some of its heat?

@thestonemaster81 Yes the cold water does control the air temp. inside the collector but I get a 5 degree temperature rise at 2 gpm so the water in the tank gets heated pretty fast. In testing it heated the water from 61 to 107 degrees in 5 hours. The air temp. in the collector was at 129 for a high.
