can i just plug it in and just do sound mode and just play music will it do anything or do i have to hook it up to my music

its true...thats all i look at i think i will get one new effects led later in the year theres something coming out similar to the mystic but more bluey greenie so thats that..I wouldnt mind some led strip lighting a couple or 4 but i will be saving for that..i guess i will go dmx sooner .but i dont know if to buy a cheap laptop to run just a dj software and dmx... might work out cheaper ?

LOL, you're right. I guess I'm a bit of a light junkie. Aren't we all? What I meant by complete is that it is all that I 'need' right now. Anything else would just be extra.

They have built in microphones and by default are sound active. They can be programmed via DMX, but I have yet to do so.
