  • I would like to have more information about this remote island. What kind of activities are carried out there? are there any villages or is it just a military base?.Thank you!

  • There are no villages only 26 people who stay there in a rotation off 6 months to watch the weather, you can visitte the island by boat in summer and the logistique is done by military aircrafts like we did this year once. There is a internet site about jan mayen. So I hope that I helped you a bit.

  • @ArnoldLafayette You must be norwegian. Who else are interested in the island? Navlebeskuende.

  • You can visit Jan Mayen with Oceanwide Expeditions. Every year when the M.V. Plancius returns from Antarctica, the ships enters Holland and you can make the North Atlantic Odyssey from Vlissingen to Scotland - Faroer or Orkneys - Jan Mayen - the Arctic pack ice and it all ends in Spitsbergen/Svalbard, where you can take a flight back home.We did it in 2011 (10-22 June). You make several zodiac landings, also on Jan Mayen. But if you go by your own, you need a permit from the commander. Max 24h!

  • great picture at 1:17!

  • - Looks like a nice place when you need to get away from the rat race ...

  • Norwegian Jan Mayen <3

  • I doubt the vikings even knew it existed... it's just a small island in a huge ocean

  • Great video.

  • is there evidence to suggest that the vikings once settled there? im surprised that the vikings never colonized the island. i guess it's environment is too harsh. is there any trees or animal life there?

  • Hoi,Tom.You where part of the C-130 crew?i´m ex BAF 15th Wing Airlift.Where can I find info over the runway on Jan Mayen? Thanks for the nice video.Very impresive!Good work!!
